How to install and configure Google Analytics for your Drupal site

Last Updated: Jan 24, 2014 09:01PM EET
In order to add Google Analytics features to your Drupal site simply follow the instructions below.

Generate your Google Analytics tracking id

Sign up for a Google Analytics account and generate the corresponding web property ID (UA number) for your site as you would have done for any non Drupal site.

You can find more details on how to complete the above in the following URLs:

Install the Google Analytics module

You will have to install the “google_analytics” module (https://drupal.org/project/google_analytics) that will generate the Google Analytics code and include it automaticaly in every page of your site.

Simply install the module as normal and enable it through the modules administration page.

Configure the Google Analytics module

Navigate to Home » Administration » Configuration » System » Google Analytics and insert your web property ID into the corresponding field.

The default configuration of the Google analytics module will fit most websites.

Note that by default the Google Analytics module is configured to not include the tracking code in the admin pages as well as the node creation and user pages. You can change this through the “Pages” tab under the “Tracking scope” in the Google analytics configuration page.

After you have selected the options that you prefer click the “Save configuration” button.

Your site is now configured and should be reporting data to your Google Analytics account.
