Drupal Commerce: How to add extra fields to the Customer profiles

Drupal Commerce comes with a drag-and-drop checkout form builder that lets you decide what information you need to collect from or display to customers during the checkout process. Check out all the avaialble checkout panes and pages through Home » Administration » Store » Configuration » Checkout settings.

In the checkout system, a checkout page is a distinct step in the checkout process that contains one or more checkout panes. Top Hit with Drupal Commerce comes with the Billing and Shipping information checkout panes. The Billing information customer profile is defined by the Customer module and the Shipping information customer profile is defined by the extra installed Commerce Shipping module.

Of course you can add any fields to your Billing/Shipping information customer profiles through Drupal's UI.  Any fields you add to your Billing/Shipping information customer profile type will appear to the checkout page for the customer to supply, making it an easy way to collect details pertinent to the billing/shipping process.

For example, if you want to add a simple Phone text field to your Billing information, just follow the steps bellow:

1. Manage the customer profiles and profile types in the store through Home » Administration » Store » Customer profiles

2. Edit the Profile types through Home » Administration » Store » Customer profiles » Profile types

3. Manage the fields of the Billing information through Home » Administration » Store » Customer profiles » Billing information

4. Add the Phone text field and Configure/Save your changes

5. Finally, you will be able to see the Billing Information with the extra Phone field
